Getting2Tri Opens Registration for National Triathlon Training Camp for Physically-Challenged Athletes

ATLANTA, Jan. 6, 2009 – The Getting2Tri Foundation (G2T, online at www.getting2tri.org), announced its National Triathlon Training Camp (NTTC) will be held March 19-22, 2009 in Atlanta, Ga. The second annual event provides new and experienced physically-challenged athletes with individualized coaching, interactive presentations and teachings, workout sessions, community building time and expert analysis. Getting2Tri Hosts National ParaTriathlete Training Camp

National ParaTriathlete Training Camp (NPTC) is the only camp of its kind in the country that provides coaching and instruction to physically-challenged athletes in the sports of swimming, cycling and running.  The four-day camp provides new and experienced physically-challenged athletes (categorized in triathlon as ParaTriathletes) with individualized coaching, as well as interactive presentations, workout sessions, expert analysis and community building time.  Click here to read more...

Getting2Tri Founder Lenhart Named to USAT Regional Board - Two-Year Appointment to Governing Board Starts in January

Getting2Tri Foundation’s founder, Mike Lenhart has been named to the USA Triathlon’s Southeast Regional Board of Directors.  Lenhart joins the board for a two-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2009.  Members of the regional board will be involved in the governance of triathlon in the Southeast.  Click here to read more...

Physically-Challenged Athlete Jason Fowler Competes at the Ford Ironman World Championship - Triathlete Trained By Getting2Tri, Sponsored by ‘Ohana Health Plan

Getting2Tri Foundation athlete Jason Fowler will compete October 11 at the world’s most grueling triathlon: the legendary Ford Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Physically-challenged athlete Fowler will compete in the handcycle division after qualifying at the Buffalo Springs Ironman 70.3 in June by winning the handcycle category. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the race – colloquially known as Hawaii Ironman – includes three sequential events: a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run. Nationwide, more than 70,000 athletes vie each year for the 1,800 qualifying and lottery slots to the Ford Ironman World Championship.  Click here to read more..

Getting2Tri Receives Official Nonprofit Status - IRS Approves 501(c)(3) Status to Sports Organization

The Getting2Tri Foundation, Inc. (G2T, online at www.getting2tri.org), a sports organization with headquarters in Atlanta, received its official 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The designation allows donors who support the mission to claim tax deductions for contributions and allows the organization to apply for grants that require the status. It also allows G2T to accept tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers and gifts under the current tax codes. Formed in 2006, the organization provides coaching, mentoring and training in the sports of running, swimming, cycling to physically-challenged individuals.  Click here to read more...

Getting2Tri Coaches Participate in ACA National Conference - Coaches to Work with Paralympian to Train Athletes

Coaches affiliated with the Getting2Tri Foundation (G2T, online at www.getting2tri.com) will be participating in swim clinics at this year’s Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) National Conference. The ACA annual event will take place June 19-22 in Atlanta, Georgia. The six G2T coaches who will participate in the conference include: Dave Armento, Peter Farren, Robin Gerndt, David Philips, Heidi Smith-Philips, and Jack Spartz. The coaches will be working with Jason Wening, head clinician for the weekend and a 3-time Paralympic swimmer and a 5-time gold medalist.  Click  here to read more...

Atlanta Athlete Jason Fowler Competes for Spot at Ironman World Championship - Vies for One of Two Qualifying Slots in Handcycle Division

Physically-challenged triathlete Jason Fowler of Atlanta will compete this Sunday, June 29, at the Buffalo Springs Lake Triathlon in Lubbock, Texas, to vie for one of the race’s two coveted male handcycle qualifying slots in the legendary Ford Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The Buffalo Springs Lake race, part of the Ironman 70.3 triathlon series, includes a 1.2 mile open water swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run and is considered one of the most difficult in the traditional half-ironman distance.
